Benzalkonium Chloride a type of quaternary ammonium compound is widely used as a disinfectant. The bactericidal action of Benzalkonium Chloride has been attributed to the inactivation of energy-producing enzymes, denaturation of essential cell proteins, and disruption of the cell membrane. 

Glutaraldehyde is a saturated dialdehyde that has wide acceptance as a very effective disinfectant and chemical sterilant. The biocidal activity of glutaraldehyde results from its alkylation of sulfhydryl, hydroxyl, carboxyl, and amino groups of microorganisms, which alters RNA, DNA, and protein synthesis. 

Formaldehyde is used as a very effective disinfectant and chemical sterilant. Formaldehyde inactivates microorganisms by alkylating the amino and sulfhydryl groups of proteins and ring nitrogen atoms of purine bases.
